Summary
We train our advisers to tackle any and all modern-day problems a client might be facing. This role is based at our office in Fakenham.Detailed description
What will you do?
- Complete an introduction to Citizens Advice training for your role
- Talk to individuals face to face to explore what problems they’ve come for help with
- Find information about the individuals’ problems and help them to understand their options
- Support individuals to take action to resolve their problems. This might include drafting or writing letters, making phone calls, or referring the client to another organisation
- Write a summary of the clients’ problems and what action you’ve taken to help the individual
- Look out for problems’ that are common, or are unfair, and write a short report about the problem or a letter to an elected official like an MP, AM or local councillor
What do you need to have?
You don’t need specific qualifications or skills. But you will need to:
- Be friendly and approachable (dependent on role)
- Be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own
- Be able to listen and communicate effectively
- Have good IT skills
- Be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection
- Be willing to undertake training in your role
How much time do you need to give?
For training:
2 days a week for around 12 weeks
As a fully trained adviser:
1 day a week for at least 40 weeks of the year.
We can be flexible about the time spent and how often you volunteer so come and talk to us.

We offer free, confidential advice - whoever you are. We help people overcome their problems and campaign on big issues when their voices need to be heard. We value diversity, inclusion and champion equality and challenge discrimination and harassment. We're here for everyone in our local communities. We offer advice in Norwich, Gt Yarmouth, King's Lynn, Attleborough, Fakenham, Dereham, Holt and North Walsham. Volunteers are trained to advise on any issue including welfare benefits, money and credit problems, employment, housing, family and relationship issues. This is both face to face, on the telephone and via email.
