Summary

The Papillon Project needs volunteers gardeners to help support three school allotments/gardens

Detailed description

The Papillon Project is in great need of some local volunteers to help support three school allotments. You can choose which school is most convenient for you from the following:

  • Cliff Park Ormiston Academy in Gorleston
  • East Norfolk Sixth Form College in Gorleston
  • Caister Academy

We are looking for enthusiastic adults who would be willing to give 1-3 hours of their time, once a week. Volunteers will help with the general upkeep of allotments and, if happy to do so, to work with charity staff and/or school staff to assist with sessions with young people. Having a knowledge of gardening is a bonus, but helping young people to feel more confident about themselves is our charity's main goal! So a positive and helpful attitude would be useful.

This is a great opportunity if you want to get experience of gardening or working with young people. Or maybe you dont have a garden and just want want to be able to get your hands into the soil.

The project and the schools are committed to safeguarding young people and a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check will need to be undertaken to ensure that you do not have any convictions that mean that you are unsuitable for working with young people. Most older convictions and those that do not affect your suitability for working with children are not considered relevant. DBS checks for volunteers are free.

It's an easy and fun way to get into volunteering for residents of Great Yarmouth and East Suffolk. You can volunteer at exciting arts, heritage and cultural events and activities, including festivals. Volunteer as little or as much as you like and choose the kind of volunteering that works for you, including online volunteering . If you’ve never volunteered before, or you think it might be difficult for you, we’ll support you every step of the way.
