Summary

The volunteer will lead the weekly Bounce and Rhyme sessions for pre-school children and their parents/carers at Caister Library.

Detailed description

Bounce and Rhyme Time is a weekly session for parents/carers and pre-school children run within each of our Norfolk Libraries. The session aims are to encourage parents and carers to share songs and rhymes with their children, through a 20 minute long group session at the library. The sessions also provide a safe space for parents to ask questions about anything they have concerns about, find information and meet other parents. The session then utilises the remaining time for 'Stay and Play' allowing the adults to have a period of social engagement.

A volunteer is needed to lead either one session which is held at Caister on on Thursday mornings. The role includes:

  • Preparing songs, stories and rhymes for a 15-20 minute session delivered within a library (training will be provided)
  • Supporting the parents and carers with the post activity engagement
  • Attending at a regular time each week and lead the singing of rhymes and songs
  • Preparing each session with the Library Manager, setting up the session and clearing away at the end
  • Talking to adults attending the session to encourage them to choose books with their children and to encourage social chat amongst them at the end of the session.
  • Encouraging people from a wide range of backgrounds to participate in sessions through the selection of songs and rhymes that reflect a range of different cultures.

Some previous experience of working in a paid or voluntary capacity with young children and their families is desirable for this role. You will also need to undergo a DBS (criminal records) check, which the library funds, and the library will also provide safeguarding training as part of their induction training.
