Summary

Volunteers are needed to support patients with activities such as quizzes, puzzles, games, music, crafts, simple sports etc.

Detailed description

The aim of the role is to provide support to patients with activities and simple exercises as part of the ‘Reconditioning the Nation’ campaign. Volunteers can encourage patients with activities such as:

  • quizzes
  • puzzles
  • music
  • board games
  • newspaper/book reading
  • arts and crafts
  • simple sports
  • conversations
  • chair and bay exercises
  • and more - if you have suggestions, please let us know

These sorts of activities will empower patients to implement positive changes to their own health and wellbeing. Activities may be run on a 1:1 basis or in a group setting within the ward day room.

The volunteers will also provide invaluable assistance to the clinical teams enabling them to continue delivering an outstanding service to their patients. Volunteering for this role involves an ongoing commitment of approximately 1-2 hours a week.

All volunteers will need to undertake a DBS check and provide two appropriate character references. All volunteers are required to attend an Induction/Training Session before they may commence in their role.

A Patient Activities Volunteer will be friendly, compassionate and enthusiastic about supporting the clinical team and the patients they support.

You will be supported by ward staff and therapists who will be your main point of contact on a sessional basis. Your Volunteer Co-ordinator will also support you through your induction and throughout your time as a volunteer. You will be invited to attend regular social gatherings for volunteers, which will give you an opportunity to meet other volunteers and learn about the work of the Trust.

All reasonable out of pocket travel expenses will be reimbursed.
