Summary
Taking orders, preparing and serving drinks and light lunches in our busy cafe, maintaining high standards of food hygiene in the kitchen and cafe areas.Detailed description
The RAF Air Defence Radar Museum tells the story of the important role of radar in air defence from the beginning of the Second World War right through the Cold War to the present day. Set in the original 1942 RAF operations building, the museum welcomes up to 10,000 visitors a year between April to November.
At the heart of the visitor experience is the Crumbs Cafe, which serves hot and cold drinks, snacks and light lunches to visitors Tuesday to Saturday during the open season. Manned completely by volunteers, the cafe has received excellent reviews on Tripadvisor and has maintained its grade 5 Food Safety rating in 2024. The income generated from the cafe supports the operation of the museum, enabling the conservation of important historical artefacts and engaging the public with the history of the Royal Air Force.
The role of the Crumbs Cafe Volunteer is to prepare the kitchen for opening, ensure the area is kept clean and tidy, demonstrate excellent customer service and deliver well presented snacks, drinks and meals to customers. Full training will be provided. Hours and days of work are flexible by prior arrangement with the manager.
