Summary

We're home to a War Memorial as this was the home of the 453rd Bombardment Group in WWII. It's one of several garden areas and we don't know what we're doing.

Detailed description

Our amateurish attempts really aren't good enough for a War Memorial which would probably benefit by some redesign and planting by someone who does know what they're doing.

There are several other areas around the aerodrome which could do with the magic touch of someone with a green thumb.

We'd love to hear from anyone who can help a bunch of well meaning people who know things about aircraft and airshows but haven't got a clue about soil types.

Naturally we'll acquire whatever is needed and are very open to ideas about how to make the place better. We do have what seems to us as a good range of tools but then we're completey clueless.

Above all, we want to ensure that the Memorial is of the best possible standard for obvious reasons.

Please do get in contact if you're up for a small but meaningful project.

About Old Buckenham Aerodrome

The Aerodrome was built in 1942 and was the wartime home of the 453rd Bombardment Group and their B-24 Liberator Bombers. Today, we're one of just 126 Aerodromes Licensed by the CAA and we have two museums, War Memorial, the UK's first electric aircraft charger (4th in the world powered by solar) and a project here is developing electric aircraft to connect the developing world. There's also a lot to do to keep the place running - we already have volunteers who man the radios talking to aircraft (we offer full, free training and accreditation) and generally help out on the aprons (full training, too). Some simply help with the vital task of mowing 126 acres and others have been assisting in our restoring over 12 acres of wartime buildings and infrastructure. Finally, there's also the small matter of the only Airshow in two counties - an award winner - where volunteers help keep 10,000 people, mostly families, happy.
