Job Description
Based in the heart of Norwich city centre Norwich OUTPOST (#FBF696) is a COI certified, not-for-profit arts charity. We run a gallery based on Wensum Street presenting five major exhibitions each year alongside other public events. We also provide over 80 artists with a place in which to create and work - offering some of the most affordable studio spaces in the East of England to emerging and established artists and makers in Gildengate House, Anglia Square.
The Norwich OUTPOST Board of Trustees are a voluntary group of three to twelve members to serve up to three years. The board of Trustees provides leadership and governance to ensure the charity sets priorities and strategies that are consistent with the charitable aims and objectives. The purpose of the Trustee Board is to oversee paid staff and the OUTPOST Steering Committee in achieving the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) charitable objectives. The committee reports back to the Trustee Board and is a sub-committee appointed by the Trustees
All trustees are responsible for decisions over financial and legal compliance with UK charity law, policy documents held by #FBF696 and ensuring the charity sets and achieves priorities and strategies that are consistent with the charitable aims and objectives. The Trustee Treasurer will be the first point of contact for checking incoming and outgoing Financial Reports and developing budget forecasts for both OUTPOST Gallery and Studios. You will work in collaboration with the Studio Operations Manager, Trustee Fundraising Officer and the Steering Committee Treasurer to identify spending trends, demands and statements for both funding applications and the Charity Commission's reporting requirements.
Job Requirements
Core Skills:
Financially literate with excellent numerical and budget management skills
Experience of communicating clearly, with the ability to adapt communication style for different groups and across all levels both internally and externally.
Continued investment in professional development, including staying informed and in tune with contemporary artist needs, as well as charitable practices
Organised, strategic thinker with experience of leading organisational strategy development and implementation.
Independence of thought and judgement, who is willing to speak their mind whilst also operating with sensitivity, tact and diplomacy.
We are unable to recruit individuals who have any of the following:
Unspent convictions for offences of dishonesty or deception
Subject to bankruptcy restrictions / orders including declared bankruptcy.
Subject to debt relief orders, restriction orders or interim orders.
Been removed as trustee, charity officer, employee by the Commission, High Court
Job Responsibilities
Key responsibilities:
- Analyse spending and income trends quarterly in accounts of all OUTPOST financial transactions and controls.
- Review annual year end expenditures and compare budget, assess overspend/underspend and reallocate any underspend prepared by Studio Operations Manager.
- Recommend annual spending budget at the end of each fiscal year for the year ahead and forward planning forecasts, in consultation with trustee fundraisers, the trustee chairs and steering committee chairs / treasurer.
- Support the fundraising trustee and committee members with funding applications.
- Where needed, support the production of financial reports produced by the Studio Operations Manager in periods of high activity or leave.
- Liaise with Studio Operations Manager to ensure all financial responsibilities are understood and maintained accurately and in a timely manner.
- Approve all expenses over £300 and other major asset purchases.
- Liaise with accountants on preparation of annual statements
