The American Library and Norfolk Museums Service are partnering with Oxford University to run collections days to add items to a Digital World War Two archive.Detailed description
Digital Collection Days are one-day events where members of the public can bring along WW2-related stories, memories, photographs, diaries, letters and any other mementos to be digitised (i.e. photographed) and uploaded to a free-to-access online archive.
The tasks of the role may vary depending on which site you are based at but in supporting Digital Collection Days, volunteers will be responsible for:
• Welcoming visitors and introducing them to the event and project
• Supervising visitors in completing forms relating to consent and data protection
• Talking to visitors about their WW2 story and/or objects and recording the information in note form and via audio recorders
• Asking visitors some additional research questions relating to WW2 • Digitising (i.e. taking photos of) WW2 objects • Uploading the digitised stories and objects to the Their Finest Hour Online Archive (after the event)
Training will be provide and will be a mix of online training and a downloadable training guide.
