Summary

Digifest is an annual festival in Norfolk Libraries that encourages young people to develop digital skills. We're looking for volunteers to help with activities

Detailed description

Digifest is an annual festival in Norfolk Libraries that encourages young people to develop digital skills. By helping to deliver fun, interactive activities you can help us inspire the next generation of problem-solvers, critical thinkers and engaged digital citizens. If you would like experience working with children in an inclusive community setting, this role is for you! Digital expertise is not necessary, but enthusiasm to learn and share new skills is. Sessions are 1 hour long and take place in local libraries. Topics include coding, robotics, 3D pens, stop motion filmmaking and more.

What will I do in this role? This role involves delivering activities to children and young people with the help of library staff. You will help set up and clear away equipment, follow session plans, and ensure that everyone can take part and enjoy themselves. You will also help people to complete evaluations and promote other Digifest events.

What difference will I make? Digifest gives people the chance to experience new technologies in a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment. We want our sessions to be exciting and aspirational because we know that trust and lack of motivation are significant barriers to engaging with the digital world. By getting involved you can help improve access and build young people’s confidence while inspiring them to develop essential skills for their futures.

Do I have the right skills and qualities? You don’t need any prior experience or knowledge, but enthusiasm and willingness to learn are essential. An interest in technology, education or digital inclusion is a bonus!

What are the expectations and how much time is involved? You will be given a choice of attending several events across the county. There is no obligation to attend a certain amount – it is down to your preferences and availability. Sessions are up to 1-hour long. You will be expected to arrive in advance and stay a short while after. Travel expenses can be reimbursed.

What training and support will I have? You will be given an induction and sent a session plan in advance. You will work with library staff who will support and supervise throughout.

What experience and skills will I gain? This role will provide you with experience working with children and young people in a community setting. You will have the opportunity to develop skills in teaching and facilitating inclusive events, while learning about digital skills and technology yourself.
