Summary
An opportunity to help the community create a garden on a previously unused and unmanageable site for people and wildlife.Detailed description
The Mile Cross Projects and Events Groups is formed by local residents and organisations working in the area, a place to meet and share ideas, skills and resources. We look for ideas for events or projects expressed by anyone in the community, and help them to realise them.
Alongside local residents and the forming of Green Hearts an idea for this space to be a community garden began. The site at Burges Road should be a family garden but with no fence, a drug dealing hotspot and lots of rubbish - the area was not fit for purpose. The clearing work so far has filled 4 skips and has been transformed but we still need lots of help.
We are looking for people to continue help us to clear the site by preparing the ground: we will be digging up roots, levelling the site, building raised beds, laying pathway, planting and more.
We will be on site Wednesdays 12 - 2pm.
You will gain experience in creating a garden, connecting with other people who are also taking action for nature and creating a space in which people can connect to nature. Your impact will be huge and felt by so many, allowing the garden to have the best start and be a real asset to the area.
Tasks include:
Clearing green waste and rubbish
Digging out perennial plants
Sieving soil to plant seeds
Removing concrete
Levelling the ground for accessibility
Laying paths
Building structures
Helping with research and documenting the project
What you need to know: All tools and safety equipment provided Long sleeves, trousers and boots essential.
This is an on-going project and all help is greatly appreciated.
