Summary
Can you spare a couple of hours to share your career journey with some Year 6 pupils?Detailed description
We are running an afternoon workshop at Woodlands Primary Academy, Bradwell for Year 6 pupils on Tuesday 14th November. The workshop gives pupils the opportunity to speak with local volunteers about their jobs, how they got into them, and hear about some of their experiences and advice. In this way, the volunteers act as inspirational role models to improve pupils' awareness of the wide range of pathways available to them, as well as increase their confidence and aspirations for their futures. This is particularly impactful for pupils who don't have any/many career role models in their lives.
Volunteers don't have to give a presentation; instead, pupils will be sitting at tables in small groups and volunteers will speak to each group for 10 minutes, then rotate onto the next table and repeat. There will also be questions prompts on the board for the pupils to ask the volunteers.
Could you spare a couple of hours to help pupils see what 'someone like me' can go on to achieve?
About Future First
We work with schools and colleges all over the UK to build their alumni networks of relatable role models and then we deliver workshops where we invite the alumni volunteers to return to school and share their experiences since leaving school, in order to show pupils what is possible for “someone like me”. Future First also creates opportunities for students to gain insights into the world of work at its employer partners, as well as a number of projects such as inviting local community volunteers into primary school workshops to act as career role models for younger pupils.
