Summary

Become one of our Seasonal Wellbeing Angels bringing joy and cheer to our members over the winter months.

Detailed description

As winter approaches, the clocks change back, the daylight hours are shorter and the dark evenings and mornings are long. We hear time after time how winter can be additionally isolating and depressing for the people we support, many struggling with night blindness and low light levels.

For the first time we are launching our Winter Wellness service to support those who may be struggling, that may want to have a friendly chat with someone, join in with an online group or activity or simply access some information on how best they can keep themselves busy during the winter months.

We are looking for Seasonal Wellbeing Angels to support this Winter Wellness project, confident, empathetic and friendly people to help our members feel less alone and isolated over the winter months.

As a volunteer in this role, you have the opportunity to provide support in one or more of the following areas;

Virtual Group Hosts – Facilitating a weekly group for members to come together to chat, interact with others or online activities such as quizzes.

Helpline – Answering calls through to the helpline in our extended opening hours, 5-7pm weekdays and on weekdays between Christmas and New Year (27th, 30th and 31st December).

Research – Looking into external agencies offering similar support, eg. listening services, other friendship groups etc to further support our members in the winter months and beyond.

Seasonal Phone Calls – Calling members on Christmas day and/or Boxing day to reduce loneliness.

Welfare Companions – making weekly contact with a member for a friendly chat during the winter months.

What times do I need to commit to?

This role requires a regular weekly commitment. We are seeking volunteers who are able to commit to the length of the Winter Wellness Offering, 28th October 2024 – 28 February 2025 and who have access to a PC, laptop or device to complete training and access our phone system if required.

Volunteering with our charity is special because you get to hear first-hand the difference you make to people’s lives. Click on 'apply' and make a difference today!
