Summary
Research & Archive Assistants will be researching the history of the Ice House and helping to record information on this famous Great Yarmouth landmark.Detailed description
The Ice House is a Grade II listed building of brick construction with a thatched roof, once one of a pair, and now the only one of its kind left in the country. It's history is intertwined with the borough, its fishing industry and the railway. Out There have a vision and also significant funding to transform it into a National Centre for Outdoor Arts and Circus.
As part of the project and before major works start, Out There Arts will be researching the history of the building and educating local people about this historic community asset. This is a truly exciting opportunity for someone who loves history and talking to people from different backgrounds. It's also an incredible opportunity to learn new skills and gain experience.
The Research and Archive Assistant will:
• Participate in heritage and history skill learning activities and training, i.e. oral history collection
• Attend supported sessions with partner organisations and assist in the researching of a variety of research topics around The Ice House with GY Library, Time and Tide Museum, and the Norfolk Record Office
• Help build a body of information, images and documents to feed into Interpretation Plan and Engagement activities
• Support uploading heritage information to Our GY website (Time and Tide Museum)
• Support with digital / social media campaigns around the Ice House
• Support with content creation for OTA Ice House web page
• Support with digitisation of content for interpretation assets
As you can see, you'll get training and loads of support, so this will not only be a really interesting opportunity, but the experience and skills gained, could be incredibly useful.
