Summary

The Stockroom Support volunteer will assist by auditing and replenishing equipment used by the Community Nursing Team.

Detailed description

Role Profile

The aim of this role is to support the Community Nursing Team by putting stock away and keeping the stockroom tidy, enabling them to spend more time directly with patients. The volunteer’s primary task will be to pack away the stock used by the Community Nursing Team, including bandages, creams, scissors, syringes, water and gloves, and to keep the store room tidy.

Volunteering for this role involves an ongoing weekly commitment of approximately 2 hours a week, on Fridays (stock is delivered on a Thursday.)

Activities undertaken by volunteers will not be used as a substitution for that of paid staff. Volunteers will not be asked to help in ways which facilitate a decrease in paid employment. The work of volunteers will always be to complement and not supplement that of paid employees of the Trust.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities may vary from session to session, but will include:

·    Moving and opening boxes of new stock and putting new items in the correct place

·    Ensuring the cupboard is kept tidy

·    Flattening the boxes and taking them to the recycling area

·    Auditing the stockroom supplies (this would be at a later date, once the volunteers are familiar with the task)

·    Reporting any concerns to the supporting staff member

Please note: The volunteer carrying out this role may be on their own for much of the time. They will have access by phone to the staff member supporting them and they will need to report in to a designated member of staff on arrival and to report again on leaving. It is essential that you remember to do this on each occasion, so that the staff team who have responsibility for you know that you are safe and well.

Registration and training

All volunteers will need to provide two references and complete our volunteer recruitment, including our Volunteers’ Induction training session. This will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to Voluntary Norfolk and NCH&C NHS Trust; key subjects which are relevant to all volunteering roles, and practical matters such as how to log your hours and how to claim expenses.

For locations in patient areas only: Volunteers for this role will need to complete a DBS check at standard level (there is no charge to you for this.)
