At Action for Children London Independent Visitors, we match volunteer mentors with children in care aged between five and eighteen who are based across the UK

We are currently looking to recruit a volunteer mentor (called Independent Visitors or IVs) for a young person based in Norfolk (area surrounding Norwich). To meet the specific needs for the young person, we encourage male candidates to apply.

Our IVs are there to develop a long-term friendship with a young person, meeting at least once a month, to give them an opportunity to access hobbies and interests, gain independence skills and generally have a fun day out. IVs are there to develop a long-term 1:1 friendship with a young person, meeting at least once a month, to give them an opportunity to access hobbies and interests, gain independence skills and generally have a fun day out.

Purpose:

  • To visit, advise and befriend a young person who is looked after by the care system.
  • To enable a young person to have contact with someone who is independent of the social services department, education system, health department, etc.
  • To provide an “adult friend” for a young person who may have little or no contact with members of his/her own family.

Requirements:

  • Subject to Enhanced DBS / References needed
  • No particular qualification needed! – we just need you to be resilient, committed and have a genuine interest in the welfare of young people!
  • Ideally, you need to be a driver with a car and valid driving license

Benefits:

  • Ongoing support from a dedicated volunteer coordinator
  • Expenses reimbursed including mileage and activity costs
  • Full training and onboarding provided
  • Make a difference to the life of young people in care! :)

About Action for Children - London Independent Visitor Service

The London Independent Visitor Service matches young people in care with volunteer mentors called Independent Visitors or IVs. The aim of the service is to help looked after young people to develop a positive 1:1 long lasting friendship with a trusted adult outside of the care system. Some of our young people are based out of London. We currently have 2 young people based in Norfolk for whom we are seeking to recruit 2 Independent Visitors.
